Words For Deaf Ears: #LTABMA :Louder Than A Bomb

This past weekend I was able to witness a powerful blast of art and emotion presented through the voice of youth all around the state, as Chicago’s own Louder Than A Bomb poetry slam crash landed for the first time in Massachusetts. The only way I can attempt to describe the raw uncut feeling of young poets coming together erupting in creativity is all in one simple phrase “..you just had to be there” , you should have been, especially if you lived in Boston or surrounding areas. It was held for the first time at M.I.T on Saturday March 31st and Sunday April 1st for the teams who made it to the 3rd round, but don’t worry if you missed out, the finals are being held on April 13th at the Villa Victoria in the South End Boston 85 West Newton Street, 7pm – 10pm.

One of the teams that made it to the final round of Louder Than A Bomb is a group of young artist who go by the name of ‘Words for Death Ears’, these poets battled it out against many talented teams to come out in first place at all 3 of their bouts. But as the saying goes at LTAB “Its not the points, its the point” meaning that the ultimate goal is to be heard, in the midst of your peers and appreciating each others art. This group of poets embodied the true essence of community alongside creativity. With a great deal of fearlessness they proclaimed their passion for their countries, the pain of losing life through violence, the pride in prevailing over adversity, and the struggle between being a better person yet staying connected to where you come from. Amazing!!

Its the most incredible feeling to be inspired in a room full of artist, especially when their drive and emotion brings you to tears, makes you laugh, has you considering a better way of dealing with differences, and forces you to go home at night and think about all the amazing things you could have written while you were busy being a normal person. yea, ”.. you just had to be there”.
